Lunch at Plank Road Exchange

Tried something new (to me) at The Plank Road Exchange on Saturday for lunch, after a trip to Eltzroth & Thompson Greenhouses, where we picked up more annuals and a replacement tomato plant.  See photo for the yummy and beautifully presented Southwestern Bean Cakes, topped with fresh salsa and avocado.  I admit I had already taken a bite out of the left side before I took the picture!  They would never have served me anything that looked raggedy.  YUM!!!

Batesville Day Parade 2012

The Batesville Day Parade for 2012 stepped off at 11 AM yesterday.  Such fun!  Lots of local kids, some interesting vehicles, our middle school band, and a beautiful day.

Batesville Store Reincarnated as The Plank Road Exchange

Although I will probably continue to mourn the loss of the former Batesville Store near our neighborhood, just down the Miller School Road, I'm so happy to see the site open again, now as The Plank Road Exchange (Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/PlankRoadExchange).  We stopped by a couple of days ago for a brunch of the best egg, bacon and cheese bagel I've had in a while.  See the article in the Crozet Gazette for more info.

It appears I need to go back there soon, because I missed the desserts!  And where else can you go and have a friendly little 3 year-old guy give you a stick-on Superman label for your shirt?

Nelson County Farmer's Market

One of the best things about May is the reappearance of the local farmers' markets.  Check out the Nelson County Farmer's Market, (http://www.nelsoncountyva.org/NelsonFarmersMarket/index.htm), which is up and running, May through October, each Saturday morning from 8-Noon.

AND, it isn't just vegetables and flowers--last year we bought some wonderful home-smoked bacon there, as well as some of the best rugelach ever!  So get out there and support your local economy while having a great time!
